The University of Alabama System is Alabama's largest higher education enterprise and includes three outstanding doctoral research universities. These universities are The University of Alabama (UA), The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). The University provides education to around 44,000 students. The University of Alabama was founded in 1831 in Tuscaloosa. There are various undergraduate and graduate enrollment programs. 20,000 students study on the main campus in Tuscaloosa, 16,000 at UAB and 8,000 at UAH. University of Alabama system operates on public funds.
The main campus atTuscaloosa is known for its academic programs in business, communications and law. Over the years, the UAB has emerged as a major international medical research institution. As far as UAH is concerned, it has excelled with deep engineering roots.
