Established in 1964, The British Columbia Institute of Technology is known as Canada's premier polytechnic institute. The college proudly presents four more campuses in downtown Vancouver, a marine campus in North Vancouver, an aerospace and technology campus in Richmond and the Great Northern Way campus. BCIT comprises of 7 schools, 6 of which provide education to the full time students.

The institute is unique in its own way as it has its own fire simulation theatre, a fully operational pulp-mill, a planetarium, an operating demonstration forest in Maple Ridge. The college is known for the subjects like: business and media, computing and information technology, engineering, applied and natural sciences, health science, trade and apprenticeship. Some of the prestigious scholarships are: a) Entrance Awards-theses are non-repayable awards granted to students in financial need and who show exemplary performance b) Graduation awards- students who take 100% course load in their final year c) BCIT Scholarships: students who are able to carry the workload of 100% in their first year.
