European Universities in 2010-2011 Rankings

According to the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2010-2011, 26 European universities are ranked in the top 100 globally, with University of Cambridge and University of Oxford tied for 1st in Europe and 6th in the world.

Imperial College London is ranked 3rd in the region and 9th internationally. It is the only other non-US institution placed in the top ten. Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich is the only other European University ranked in the world top 20 (tied for 15th with University of Michigan).

France has four leading institutions ranked in the European Top 50. Ecole Polytechnic is the highest ranked institution in the country (6th in the region and 39th in the world), followed by Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris (8th regionally), ENS De Lyon (28th regionally), and Pierre and Marie Curie University (47th regionally).

Times Higher Education 2010-2011 Rankings

The Times Higher Education 2010-2011 Rankings issue has just been released. United States dominated the rankings with seven institutions ranked in the top 10 and 27 in the top 50 globally. Harvard had an overall score of 96.1 and ranked no. 1 in the world, followed by Caltech (2nd), MIT (3rd), Stanford (4th) and Princeton (5th).

UK has three institutions ranked in the global top 10, with Oxford and Cambridge ranked joint 6th globally, followed by Imperial College London (9th).

In Canada, the University of Toronto is the highest ranked institution in the country (17th globally), followed by University of British Columbia (30th) and McGill University (35th).

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich is the only university outside North America and Britain to be ranked in the top 20 globally.
