Aberystwyth University Of Wales

Established in 1872, Aberystwyth was the first University to be launched in Aberystwyth, Wales. Currently it imparts education to 7000 students, 1,100 of them being enrolled into various postgraduate courses in the University's several Educational Departments.

Scholarships

The Entrance Scholarships and Merit Awards (for entry in 2007) are among the principal scholarships granted by the University of Aberystwyth. 50 Entrance Scholarships and 300 Merit Awards are provided by the University to encourage excellence in academic achievements among the students.

Some salient features of the Entrance Scholarships and Merit Awards are listed below:
  • Awards are granted according to performance of students in entrance examinations which are held in the month of February.
  • Scholarship Awards are valued from £1,000 to £1,200 per annum and hold for the total period of the course.
  • Students who performed well in the examinations but not as well as those who were granted scholarships are provided with Merit Awards.
Library Facilities

Some salient aspects of the Library at the Aberystwyth University of Wales are that:
  • It is a state-of-the-art library with study spaces to accommodate more than 1,300 people.
  • It stocks over 700,000 titles and subscribes to over 3,000 journals.
  • It stocks a whole host of electronic information resources.
Student Facilities

The University possesses art galleries, a cinema theatre, a bookshop, cafes and bars, dance studios, a photographic collection and a concert hall to fulfill the learning and recreational desires of its students.

Accommodation

All University accommodation is located at close proximity from the campus so that traveling costs for the students are minimal. The cheapest accommodation is provided at a rate of £42.20 per week. The University has currently spent over £30m for constructing new lodging houses for its students. The University has leased properties to meet the growing requirement for accommodation among the students.
