North East Wales Institute of Higher Education

Established in 1975, the North East Wales Institute (NEWI) of Higher Education is an Institute located in Wrexham, a commercial town of North-East Wales. An Institute under the University of Wales, NEWI offers a splendid blend of a pleasant ambience, excellent faculty, a rigorous curriculum and a superb community environment to its students.

Courses Offered

NEWI is renowned for some of the professional education that it imparts such as Initial Teacher Training and Nursing. The Institute offers postgraduate and undergraduate courses in Art & Design, Engineering, Science, Humanities and Business. NEWI encourages its students to conduct painstaking research in Science, Engineering, Health, Business, and Arts.

Scholarships

For non-UK European resident students, the Welsh Assembly Government will disburse a non-means tested endowment of £1,800 per annum directly to universities. This will reduce student fees considerably by about £600.

Facilities

The Library at NEWI provides books, periodicals, films, CDs and other electronic services on a large number of topics to cater to students' needs.

A Health Promotion Library, present at NEWI provides extensive knowledge on issues such as:

• Stress

The Sports Centre of the Institute has created a Health and Lifestyle Package for the benefit of its students. The package lasts for 8 weeks. The purpose of this package is:

• to make students go through a fitness test
• to give students individual exercise routines
• to instruct students on physical exercises and food items

NEWI provides accommodation to students in its owned residences. Students have to cook their own food in NEWI's residences. While students have to bring their own bedding and crockery, the residences provide gas and electricity facilities.
