Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has evolved into a world-renowned research university and health care center. It has also become Alabama's single largest employer and an engine of revitalization for the city of Birmingham.
More than 17,000 students study at Alabama. The faculty is comprised of 18,600 members. The campus covers more than 80 city blocks. UAB ranks among the top 20 in funding from the National Institute of Health. It has a distinguished academic health center and 80 interdisciplinary research centers.
The University of Alabama offers almost 140 degrees; bachelor's, master's, specialist, and doctoral levels; through 12 schools and a large graduate school.
