The foundation of the University of Montevallo was laid in 1896. It is located in Montevallo at a distance of 35 miles south of Birmingham. The University spreads across 160-acre main campus. University of Montevallo is one of the 21 member institutions of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. It is Alabama's only public liberal arts university.
