University Of South Alabama

In 1963, the Alabama Legislature created the University of South Alabama that is located in the city of Mobile on Old Shell Road. It is the fastest growing university in the state.

The University has an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students. The University has nine schools and colleges: Allied Health Professions; Arts and Sciences; Mitchell College of Business; Education; Engineering; Medicine; Nursing; Computer and Information Science; and Continuing Education and Special Programs.

In total, the University has awarded over 55,000 degrees. In fields such as Pharmacology and Microbiology, Doctorate level can be achieved.

The school participates in NCAA Division I athletics. The University's athletic team is the Jaguars.

The University has many research centers, such as the Alabama Center for Estuarine Studies (ACES), the Alabama Supercomputer Center, the Center for Archaeological Studies, the USA Polling Group, and the Coastal Weather Research Center. Significant research goes on at these centers.
